THOR.

By now, most of you guys have probably heard about the upcoming Thor movie. Thor will be portrayed by Chris Hemsworth, who recently played Captain Kirk in the new Star Trek movie, and the very skilled Anthony Hopkins will be playing the one-eyed god, Odin.
I'm not sure what to think of this one. Personally, I've never really liked the idea of a deity as a superhero. Not only would Thor be verifying Norse Mythology, but how are heros like Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Iron Man supposed to compare to the power of a freakin' god? And who's supposed to stand up to him? That seems like too big of a power gap to me.
What do you guys think of this one? Will Thor manage to be as successful as the previous Marvel Blockbusters, Iron Man, The Hulk, and Spider-Man?

(Also, apparently the studio didn't want to look racist, so the Norse deity Heimdall will be portrayed by a black actor. I suppose public image is more important that overall accurac.)

    Have you seen the trailer? It looks like a different breed of superhero movie. I'm totally stoked.

    Plus the "black actor" you're referring to is Idris Elba who is a better actor than most whities.

    I doubt it will be as successful as films based on Spiderman or Iron Man, but it should do pretty well in the movies.
    I'll be watching it at the very least.

    The trailers looked pretty bad, they really failed at making him look cool. Could be this year's Batman and Robin. I actually blogged about this, and the crappiness in general of upcoming 2011 movies, about a week ago.

    so.... even though its more accurate why arn't they doing white actors with blondeish hair i think the fact their casting a black actor for image is going to set the tone for this film

    I may see this one, I may not I'm not sure. I agree it seems kind of unfair to have a deity as a superhero. Who can defeat a guy who is in god mode all the time?

    Wow I didnt even recognize kirk playing thor. I hope they do a sequal with thor fighting the hulk. one of the greatest battles in all comics.

    Marvel, when sticking to Avengers movies, seems to be doing ok. I think they're distancing themselves from the 'Origins' label, which is probably for the better.
